Now here in the UK a doily is usually found under a plate of cakes, but in crafting it can be any decorative mat or you can just use a cake doily like I have. If you cut the centre out of a round cake doily you can then pleat it round any edge and it looks like lace !! I have colour tinted my doily with a blue promarker.
Wanted to keep the whole spring feel to my card, so have coloured the daffs in their traditional colours of yellow and orange using promarkers again.
Now why don't you see how creative you can be with a doily and to get you started, check out what the rest of the team have done over at Robyn's Fetish Challenge Blog !!
Hi all, hope you are having fun at this festive time, I just wanted to share with you my experience on Christmas Eve.
As you do, my hubby and I went to Morrisons on Christmas Eve for some
last minute food shopping, I had to go sit down and went in the cafe,
where I saw an elderly gentlemen who was very bent over, with a walking
stick struggling to get a cup, for his drink from the top of a pile that
was stacked. I was a little away, and as I approached him, felt
overwhelmed with sadness at how many people walked past him, didnt see
him or ignored him. I went up to him and asked him if he would like some
help, which he very gratefully accepted, as he was slow, and continued
to struggle in walking at such an odd angle of being stooped (though
nothing I could help him with), I made a joke of pushing in front of
him, and continued to chat as I was getting the drinks. We had a good
old chinwag, and I got my drinks and took them to my table.
I looked round at this gentleman and could see his face and saw him
struggling beyond comprehension again, he had paid, had a tray with a
drink on and a walking stick and was obviously in a dilemma as to how to
get to his chair, I went and offered him some further help, (pointedly
looking at the cashier whilst offering it - with my sternest face on!),
he seemed relieved for the help.
We got to his table, and as my hubby was still in the queue with the
shopping I sat down and chatted (he was waiting for his bacon sandwich),
now I believe in equality! Even when nagging! And when he was saying
how hard it is and how few people help you these days, I gave him a
Leigh nagging special, and pointed out that despite his obvious
disability, he needs to speak up for himself, and tell people what he
needs, as these days people are so frightened to help in case of
politically correctness, potentially patronizing behaviour etc., and I
said dont worry, I am like this with everyone.
When hubby came to the table, I left the poor man in peace, and went to
my table. When I looked back a while later he was gone, which I felt sad
I hadnt got to say goodbye to him, but remembered the twinkle in his
eye when I was nagging him, you see, nagging shows you care.
The bottom line of this story is........... Please dont look away, if
you think someone needs your help and it is safe to offer it, take a
chance, even if we get it wrong, at least we tried.
I am the same kind of person as Leigh ....a kind thought goes a long way, so please try to have one every day !!
He is such a cute fellow and just right for a young child or any big kid at heart !!
I wanted to make him into a shaped free standing card, so I made the image as large as I could and printed it onto a piece of card., then cut him out. I then layed him on a second piece of folded card so the fold came halfway up the turtles shell and drew round the bottom half, then cut round the line to make the stand at back ( turtle now has eight legs to stand on in effect) Turtle was then printed off several more times onto card so I could decoupage his shell, holly and his hat to make him very 3D.
All he needed was to be coloured in with promarkers and some stickle glitter added to his hat and pompom and a with love stamped onto a small tag.

Non traditonal colours this time using pinks, and grey's to make my eastel card. The papers are from Craftwork Cards and I have paper pieced Bella and added some faux stitching, gems and some stickles to her. Cut out some hearts on my cricut to mirror her heart buttons to decorate my card and for the easel stopper.
The girls have some fab creations to show you so please pop over to Robyn's Fetish Challenge Blog !!
Home For the Holidays is one of my favourite Robyn's Festish christmas digi's and you can see I have used him more than once on other cards I have made !!
For some reason my camera decided to make my background paper look pink, but it is actually red !!
As usual I have fussy cute my cute snowman out and 3D him. The tree's I just handcut from green check paper and added some glitter. The fence was cut using a marianne die. All of those have been 3D as well. I stamped the Happy Chistmas onto card and cut round each letter and glued onto the green strip across the top. I know fussy cutting again......
One chilly card for sure and boy has it been cold here the last few days !!
Just made a 6" rosette circle edged with a Marther Stewerd punch to fit a 6" x 6" square card. Then cut one big snowflake and six smaller snowflakes on my cricut and glitter them all with stickles. I printed christmas penguin to fit a 4" circle and coloured in with promarkers and then again added some stickles. To the edge of this I attached the six smaller snowflakes before then glueing it too the rosette. The Brr was also cut on the cricut, stickled and the glued onto a strip of blue card and put beneath the image circle. Just added a few star gems to the four outer edges and on the main image. Made a ribbon bow and attached it to the big snowflake and then glued to lefthand side of card.
Now I got so excited that I will confess I made my secret christmas box first, then our lovley Susan pointed out our challenge was christmas cards ( I missed the cards bit altogether) !! So I then made my matching christmas card.
I have just got a fab paper pad by BoBunny called "Snow day" which are all blues, greens and mustard so I decided to make this set for a male friend of mine, blokes can be so hard to make for. The gift box did have chocolates in, but as you can see they are no longer there...now who could have eaten them ??
I must thank my blogger friend Katina who's blog I saw this fab secret box on and knew I just had to make one, so thanks Katina !!
I coloured the lovely Snowbear with promarkers and added some sparkle with good old stickles and mounted him on a scalloped circle cut on my cricut. The White Stuff sentiment was also cut on my cricut. I do use alot of 3D foam tape to raise everything and all the centre panel on my card and the panels on the box have been raised using this. Just finished off the card with two bits of ribbom and tied a knot bow on one side.
There you have it, a nice manly christmas card with matching secret box !!
Alot going on with my card this week...started with a kraft base card, then a layer of christmas vellum which I tore and inked the edges. Then tore round my snowman and coloured him with Vintage Photo watered down distress ink and added a bit of highlight with stickles. My big snowflakes were cut on the cricut first in kraft card then the vellum and held together with a snowflake brad. I then pleated a bit of wide cotton ribbon to go along the bottom, the tied a bow with a piece of cream velvet ribbon to go on top. The sentiment is one from The Crafty Pads Designs "Circle Christmas Sentiments" set.
I really love my card as it a bit different to the usual christmas cards !!
Now check out the fabulous projects the rest of the girls form Team A have for you over at
I love lots of layers on my cards and have used paper from a Basic Grey pad called "Aspen Frost"
Fussy cut, decoupaged and paper piece my cute snowman. Paper pleated a piece of card and paper together to go across the centre. Hand wrote my Winter Wishes. Inked all my edges with Vintage Photo distress ink.
